Watch me eat 500 calories in Halloween junk in 10 seconds, well, not me, but I asked my buddy Justin to do it and take one for the team :) from TFW Estrella.
Old traditions die hard. But some old traditions need to die fast. And I think the act of collecting random Sugar Filled Candy is one of them.
Things to think about:
The habits we start our kids on now will lead them to where they will be in the future.
Ya ya, I know, but they are kids. So were we and look at us now ( or in the recent past at least)
But something to think about is that Kids are just small impressionable humans that look to us for guidance so that when they become our age they do not grow into the same problems that we have with weight gain, pains in our joints in our 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's (waaaay to early), being put on meds to combat avoidable health related illness/disease and a lack of confidence because of the way we look and feel.
Sure, we at candy when were little. Shoot, I would sit there and eat the whole pillow case full in one night.. We all did, but look where that has gotten most of us. It didn't matter or show at the time, but that we the start of us reinforcing those bad habits.
The Halloween candy binge in no way, not a single one, will help your children at any point of their lives.... Not a single one!
- Walking up to weirdo strangers that like to dress up and ask for sugar that will ultimately hurt their entire mental and physical state.
- Think about the term "Trick or Treat". WTF are we teaching them? Hey stranger (dressed up like a weirdo to give candy to little kids, only thing missing is the big white van) if you don't give me sugary addictive candy that ultimately hurts my body and my future mental and physical state, I am going to play a mean trick (vandalize your home) on you. *Sure that may be reaching a lil, but you get the idea.
- If they want candy, and they want to go door to door, instead of begging for candy, have them carry a rake and ask to help the people in the neighborhood by Raking Leaves to earn income (instilling good habits) and then take them to buy a piece of candy or save their money for what ever they want. <-- I love that! Even have them do it for Free and spread good will during the day, without a mask, or hey, take the mask off and dress up like superman! Teach them what a real life super hero would do..
Ok, I'll stop there so you can listen to what my buddy Justin said otherwise I'll go on for ever!
If you are ever in Estrella Arizona, let me know and I'll hook you up with Justin. He is an awesome guy that I am lucky to call a friend.
